Web Design Scottsdale, AZ

We are in Gilbert, roughly forty minutes from most of Scottsdale. That is the longest drive of any market we serve, and we would rather raise it now than have it surprise you later. It changes nothing about your rankings, but it does mean in-person meetings are planned rather than casual.

Scottsdale is also the market where generic local web design advice goes most badly wrong, so it is worth being specific about why.

You are probably building for two different audiences

Tourism is one of Scottsdale’s central economic engines, and resort and hospitality investment has continued to land in Old Town and along the resort corridor. You do not need a figure to see it: the hotel building, the events calendar and the seasonal swing in trade are visible from any Old Town street.

For a great many Scottsdale businesses that means two customers arriving at the same website with almost nothing in common:

The visitor is on a phone, possibly in a hotel room, deciding in the next few minutes. They do not know the local geography, so “just off Scottsdale Road” means nothing to them. They need to know where you are, whether you are open now, roughly what it costs, and how to book — and they will leave if any of those takes more than a moment to find.

The resident already knows where you are. They are deciding whether you are worth choosing again, and they respond to depth: the full range, the people, the reasons to come back.

A single page written to serve both usually serves neither. The fix is structural — separate paths from the homepage, not a compromise paragraph that tries to address everyone.

Seasonality is the hardest technical requirement

Scottsdale’s peak is driven by people escaping cold winters elsewhere, which produces a swing most businesses in the Valley never have to design for. If a large share of your revenue arrives in a few months, the website has specific obligations:

  • Anything seasonal has to be editable by you, in minutes. Hours, rates, menus, closures. If changing your opening times requires emailing an agency and waiting two days, the information on your site will be wrong for much of the year.
  • Closures need saying out loud. A site that implies you are open when you are not costs you a visit and some goodwill. Stating the season plainly costs you nothing.
  • Peak season is a load test. The traffic arrives concentrated. Hosting that copes in August is not evidence it will cope in February.
  • Prices that vary by season should say so. A rate that looks like a bait-and-switch on arrival does more damage than a higher honest number.

The design bar is set by hospitality, not by your competitors

This is the part worth being blunt about. In most towns your website is judged against other local businesses in your category. In Scottsdale it is judged, unconsciously, against the resort site the visitor booked through an hour earlier — work with real photography, real budget and a brand team behind it.

That raises the floor. It does not mean you need a resort’s budget, but it does mean a template with stock photography reads as cheap here in a way it would not elsewhere. The things that close most of the gap are unglamorous: real photographs of your actual place, generous white space, restraint with fonts and colours, and speed.

And an honest limit. If what you need is a luxury brand identity created from nothing, a specialist branding studio will serve you better than we will, and we will tell you that in the first conversation rather than take the work.

Photography is the highest-leverage money you can spend here

If there is one place where a Scottsdale budget should go first, it is not the design. It is the pictures.

The reason is that your visitor is comparing you against resorts and restaurants that commission photography as a matter of course, and against every other option on the same map search. Stock imagery is recognisable as stock to almost everyone now, and in a market this visual it does something worse than look cheap — it implies there was nothing real worth showing.

  • Photograph the place, not the concept. Your room, your patio at the hour it actually looks best, your food as it is plated on a normal Tuesday. Aspirational imagery that does not match the arrival is the fastest route to a disappointed review.
  • Shoot for the season you are selling. Winter-peak businesses selling a February stay should not be illustrated with photographs taken in July light, and the difference is obvious to anyone who lives here.
  • Get the exterior and the entrance. A visitor who cannot recognise your frontage from the pavement will walk past it. This single photograph does more work than most of the gallery.
  • Budget for refreshing it. Photography ages. A gallery that plainly shows a room you refurbished two renovations ago undercuts everything else you claim.

We will come and shoot it, and we would rather spend a morning doing that than a week refining a layout wrapped around purchased images.

Old Town, and being findable by people who do not know the city

Old Town is marketed by the city as a destination in its own right, and visitors search for it by name far more than they search for street names. If you trade there, saying so explicitly matters more than it would in a residential suburb — a visitor searching “Old Town” and a resident searching your cross-streets are two different queries, and the site should answer both.

What we build

WordPress, on hosting fast enough to matter, designed for phones first — which in a visitor economy is not a preference but the main case. You can edit it yourself, and you get the training that makes that real.

You own everything: site, domain, hosting account, content. If you move on, you take all of it.

For our general approach see Arizona web design. Published client results, with numbers, are on the case studies page.

Being found once the site exists

For visitor-facing Scottsdale businesses the Google Business Profile does a great deal of the work, because that is what appears on a map search from a hotel room. Photographs, accurate hours including seasonal changes, and a steady flow of recent reviews matter more than almost anything on the website itself. Reviews decay in usefulness, so a page of glowing comments from 2021 is weaker than a handful from last month.

That is a separate engagement, and we will tell you which of the two your money should go into first.

FAQ

Should my site be built for visitors or for locals?

Usually both, on separate paths. A visitor needs to know where you are, whether you are open, and how to book, decided in about a minute on a phone. A resident needs to know you are worth returning to. One page trying to do both jobs at once generally does neither, and the fix is structural rather than a matter of wording.

How do you handle a business whose year is one long season?

By building the seasonal parts to be changed rather than rebuilt. Hours, menus, rates and closures should be editable by you in minutes, because a site that says open daily in July when you shut until October costs you trust as well as a booking. If your revenue concentrates into a few months, the site has to be right during them.

Scottsdale design standards are high. Can you meet them?

Sometimes the honest answer is no. If you need a brand identity built from scratch to sit beside luxury hospitality, a specialist studio is a better fit and we will say so. If you need a site that is genuinely fast, works properly on a phone, is easy to update and does not look out of place beside a resort site, that we do.

You are in Gilbert, not Scottsdale. Does that matter here?

It matters more in Scottsdale than anywhere else we work, and not for the reason people assume. Your rankings depend on where your business is, not where your agency is. But we are about forty minutes away, so in-person meetings need planning rather than being casual. If regular face-to-face contact is important to you, that is worth weighing before you hire us.
